Botticelli

Botticelli is a natural mosaic. Fragments of stone of every size — pink, green, ochre, the odd grey — wedged against one another with no background to separate them, like a terrazzo made by the earth. Up close no two centimetres are alike; from a distance the whole melts into a warm, quiet beige. That double reading is what sets it apart: it fills without shouting.
