BADLANDS

BADLANDS is the installation the studio Paralela presented at MIAD 2025, and Orion supplied the stone: two dark marbles, Palissandro and Armany Brown, cut and finished for that room.

Palissandro is used as cladding in the showers. It is a marble made of lines: over a background between beige and pink run parallel striations of grey and brown that cross the slab from side to side. Set vertically and backlit in the two shower recesses, the wall stops being a wall and becomes a lamp.

Armany Brown is the chocolate brown of the washbasin, a monolithic piece that holds the bowl and extends into a shelf. It is a deep brown without shine, run through by fine veins — some white, others a muted gold that appears only when the light falls from the side. Under the warm light of the room, those veins catch.

Both marbles go in flooring, cladding, bathrooms and outdoor spaces, and both belong to ORION SELECTED. For BADLANDS they were cut to measure and given a finish of their own: format and texture adapt to the project, not the other way round.

This is the work Orion does when a studio arrives with an idea rather than a cutting plan: the block is chosen, the cut is decided in front of the slabs and the piece is installed on site.
